Slouchy American Girl Beret to Crochet

My Eliana got an American Girl doll last year for her birthday.

Previously I scoffed at these dolls.

$100?  Seriously?

Who in their right mind would pay $100 for a DOLL?

Uh huh!  Well I’m a sucker I guess because I was sold on them over one aspect.

The hair.

That’s what did it.

I had heard from several friends that the dolls really do hold up and the hair stays nice and brushable.

They weren’t lying either.

A $100 doll is a big gift in my book, especially for a (then) 7 year old.  So my mom and I split the cost.  Eliana loves her!

At the time I was due to have Exzander and I went into a hat-making-frenzy to get some photo prop hats ready for him.  I figured since I was on a roll, I’d make a hat or 2 for for Eliana’s AG Doll.

But to be honest, I didn’t really find any that I loved or wanted to make, I was being picky I suppose. So I designed one. Here is my pattern for the hat pictured.

I’ve made this same hat several times for Eliana’s friend’s dolls.

Just remember, I’m not a professional crochet pattern writer.  😉  A couple of friends have tested the pattern out for me and gave me the thumbs up.  So here it is…

  3. I’m 78, crocheting since I was 23. I’ve made this hat for a friend’s daughter, but found something in your pattern that could be confusing for a new crocheter. In round 2 it doesn’t read “ch 1” between the sets of 3 dc – I did what it said and then figured out what you meant by reading the next round. Also, I wonder what “sec” means in round 7 – did you mean “sc”? My count was off a stitch at the end, but that’s not critical.

Thanks so much for the pattern – I adjusted my hook to the yarn I had to meet the gauge, and hope it fits.
