Easy Green Smoothie Recipe with a Tropical Twist

This super easy green smoothie recipe is loaded with nutrient-dense ingredients. The main players in this green smoothie are lime, mango, banana, kale (or spinach), orange, and chia seeds. I have some substitution options but if you do substitute some of the fruit, be sure to still include the banana, orange, and lime.

I had a harder time getting greens into my children when they were younger. For this reason, I started working on a green smoothie recipe that I could pack some kale into. This was their favorite smoothie (aside from the mint chocolate smoothie).

Kale is the superstar in this smoothie recipe. Vitamins A, B6, C, K, and folate are all contained in kale. Chia seeds work a dual purpose in this smoothie. They thicken up your smoothie but more importantly, they add tons of calcium (especially given their small size).

Options for Your Easy Green Smoothie Recipe

Depending on your preference, you may want to add a little more sweetener to your smoothie at the end. Sometimes we add a little refined sugar or some monk fruit extract. This depends greatly on the sweetness of your fruit and your personal tastes.

You can use kale or spinach in this smoothie. If you go with kale, you may notice a slight kale flavor versus a more neutral flavor from spinach. Since kale is so nutrient-dense, it is my go-to in this smoothie. Don’t get me wrong, spinach is good. Kale is just better in my opinion.

There are some fruit substitutions you can make. Sometimes we include pineapple, peaches, mango, and/or oranges. The fruit you do not want to omit in your substitution is the banana, lime juice, and orange. Those three are the foundation of this tropical drink.

I frequently add vanilla protein powder to my green smoothie. My recipe does not list protein powder. The reason for this is that this smoothie is good with or without protein powder. Proceed as your heart desires.

With that, let’s get to making your green smoothie!
